Celebrating a successful first month of Pickleball!

What a summer it has been in the gym! The TownLake community is celebrating our first month of Pickleball! Thanks to everyone who kicked it off so successfully.

USA Pickleball Ambassador Ruth Brown (top photo, right) helped teach new players and welcome them, TownLake Sports Director Alison Zacharias said. Brown and pickleball enthusiast (and Y member) Neil Pasco (top photo, left) helped organize and build up excitement for pickleball, doing “everything from laying the tape to building the roster to speaking at the senior social,” Zacharias said. On Wednesday, July 24, they were grinning along with John, a Y member and new pickleball player (top photo, middle), as they taught him to play.

“Huge thanks to Ruth and Neil for being so instrumental in getting this program off the ground,” Zacharias said. “We’ve had so much interest in starting pickleball here for a while, and it really helped to have two dedicated people who gave their time and energy to making this a success. We’ve already had over 50 participants and we’re excited to see it grow!”

Brown’s ambassador role is complete now that the program is off the ground, but Pasco will still be here to help new players. Pickleball is a fun sport that’s easy to pick up for people of all ages, and all players are encouraged to help teach and welcome each other, Zacharias said.

TownLake Pickleball is 2-4pm Tuesdays and Wednesdays in the upstairs gymnasium. Free for members, $10 for guests.
