Welcoming Week Kickoff Event
Join us for an evening dedicated to collaboration and community! This Welcoming Week kick-off event will feature a special screening of the documentary UNDIVIDE US, presented by the YMCA and KMFA Radio.
The screening will support the YMCA Youth and Government program and include an audience Q&A and panel discussion with local leaders and experts. Confirmed guests include Kristina Kendall, Director of UNDIVIDE US, and Kathy Kuras, President & CEO of the Greater Austin YMCA, among other incredible guests.
The event takes place on Wednesday, September 11, at the Draylen Mason Studio, starting with a cocktail reception at 6 PM.
Open Houses and Free Classes
Throughout Welcoming Week, we’re excited to host Open Houses including a variety of free fitness classes at several Greater Austin YMCA locations! Whether you’re a yoga enthusiast, a Zumba fan, or a pickleball pro, there’s something for everyone. These events are all about bringing our diverse community together and celebrating the rich tapestry of cultures within our Y family.
Townlake Arts Bazaar
A highlight of Welcoming Week is the Refugee Arts & Crafts Bazaar at the Townlake YMCA, in partnership with Global Impact Initiative. On Saturday, September 14, from 10 AM to 2 PM, explore unique handmade goods, decorative items, and delicious traditional foods made by local refugee artisans. All proceeds go directly to the vendors, offering a great way to support and celebrate our community’s diverse backgrounds.
In addition to fitness and fun, Welcoming Week is all about learning and growth too! We’re excited to partner with Austin Commons to bring you the Local Government 101 workshop. Curious about how local government affects your daily life? This workshop breaks it down for you, covering everything from property taxes to traffic management to what goes on at City Hall. It might sound daunting, but we’ve made it accessible and engaging. Catch this workshop exclusively at North Austin Y, East Communities Y, and Southwest Family Y. Check your individual center for times and dates!
Join the Fun!
So, what are you waiting for? Invite your friends and family to join us during Welcoming Week. It’s a fantastic opportunity to get involved, try something new, and connect with the community.
See you there!
