Around 80 Texas children fatally drown each year.
400 children survived drowning experiences with nearly half of those cases happening in their very own backyard. These deaths are 100% preventable and the Y wants to ensure that every child can learn life-saving skills that inspire confidence around water.
This Water Safety Month, we are asking you to step up and join us. Over 1 million children across the country have already learned how to swim at the Y. Help us reach more children and prevent fatal drownings from happening in our community. Teaching children how to swim is not a luxury; it is a necessity.
For over 150 years, the Y has been a national leader in water safety instruction teaching millions how to swim and be safe around water. We believe that everyone deserves access to programs that develop lifesaving skills. Increasing numbers of historically excluded communities continue to be disproportionately affected by lack of access to swimming programs. We are addressing this inequity by providing financial assistance to increase access.
