Community Impact Report

Together, we’re building connections and sustaining the community now and for generations to come.

COMMUNITY IMPACT

The YMCA is uniquely suited to meet our community’s health and well-being needs, every day.

Dear YMCA Friends,

The essence of our YMCA is embodied in an African proverb: “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.”

Human nature compels us to take action when we see a problem. But many of the challenges facing our community are too large to take on alone. By leveraging our collective strengths, we expand the range of possibilities and increase our chances for success.

Across Travis, Hays and Bastrop Counties, we focused on empowering young people, improving health and well-being, and inspiring action in communities.

  • We announced the of our ninth branch, Four Points, which will open in 2024. We look forward to serving a new Austin area community through this center.
  • We partnered with the Health Alliance for Austin Musicians (HAAM) to provide subsidized Y memberships to ensure that those who power the “Live Music Capital of the World” don’t miss a beat.
  • Our out-of-school time program, EAC-Y, continues to be the largest afterschool care provider in the Austin area, serving families and benefiting the entire community.

By bringing together people from different backgrounds, perspectives and generations, we have worked to build a welcoming, inclusive environment where all feel seen, heard and respected.

This Community Impact Report shows how much we have to be proud of…and to look forward to.

Thank you to our Y volunteers, staff, members, partners and advocates who make all of this possible.

Together, we can improve lives today.

Together, we can create a better Central Texas for tomorrow.

Together, we can…

Joining Forces for Greater Impact

In September 2019, Extend-A-Care for Kids and the Greater Austin YMCA created a strategic alliance to combine the pre-school, afterschool and camp operations of both organizations to create the new Extend-A-Care YMCA.

Supporting the Live Music Community

You cannot think of Austin without thinking of music. In 2019, the Greater Austin YMCA teamed up with the Health Alliance for Austin Musicians (HAAM) to offer discounted memberships to area musicians.

Building Connections to Nature

Nearly 20 years after local philanthropists George and Peggy Yonge donated 100 scenic acres along Onion Creek to the Greater Austin YMCA, the Y broke ground on its new Camp Moody project and Hays CISD aquatics complex.
