Summer is a lot of things—fun, busy, and hot! And if you live in Texas, you know that Texas tends to take summer heat to another level. When temperatures rise, many of us Texans will find a nearby pool, splash pad, lake, or even backyard sprinkler to escape the heat. Cooling down your body is a must when it’s hot out, but don’t forget about the inside of your body! No matter how young or old you may be, it is essential to stay hydrated this summer—and all year long!
Today we’re sharing a simple hydration hack to keep you and your family hydrated this summer.
Hydration Hack: Add Salt!
When it comes to staying hydrated, you might think the best thing you can do is chug water all day long. While yes, it is good to drink water throughout the day, chugging water isn’t necessary. Instead, add a pinch of sea salt to your water. The sodium in sea salt is a natural electrolyte, and it will also help you actually retain more of the water you consume.
Rather than drinking sports drinks that have electrolytes…and added sugars, dyes, and artificial flavors, keep things simple and healthier with just a pinch of salt! And don’t worry, your water won’t actually taste salty. (If it does, you’ve added too much.) If it’s an especially hot day and you want to boost your hydration even more, drink coconut water with a pinch of salt! Coconut water has even more electrolytes, keeping you extra hydrated.
